PhD Awards

The foundation has increased its part-funding of 1+3 PhD awards and for postgrads starting in 2008/09 will be offering £8k pa towards the student stipend and £3k to the host department. For details on how prospective PhD supervisors can apply, the Postgraduate Awards section of the website.

Postgraduate International Travel

The foundation has established a fund for international conference costs and associated travel for postgraduate students. Students presenting medical sociology papers at international conference can claim up to £750. Research Initiation Grants

The foundation is now prepared to offer up to £10k to support medical sociologists needing seedcorn funding to prepare major research bids. The first of these awards went to Madeleine Murtagh (Newcastle University) to support preparatory meetings and travel for a cross-national bid on professional decision-making in health care. Symposia & Workshops

The Foundation now provides support for a series of workshops as well as single meeting events. Up to £15k over 2 years is available for funding a series of workshops. See the Symposia & Workshops section for further details.
