Notes on the Application Form:

Item 1: It is expected that the principal applicant will normally be the projected supervisor of the student.

Item 2: If the award goes to a part-time student, the Foundation must be informed and will adjust the award accordingly; institutions will still be expected to make appropriate independent contributions to the student's support.

Item 5b: It is not a requirement that applicants will have already obtained or applied for LREC, MREC, or University ethics committee approval, prior to submission. But applicants should state their intentions on future submissions or state why such a submission is unnecessary.

Item 8: The Foundation makes no stipulation on the appropriate institutional contribution to the student stipend. The ESRC's current stipend is £14,000 pa. Equipment and travel costs should be appropriate for the specified research topic.

Item 9a: The Foundation is bound by legislation to ensure that all possible beneficiaries of the Foundation's activities have equal opportunities of access to benefits.
